MAGGIE CENTERS
Maggie Definition:
“A center that provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.”
The Experiential Definition:
A place away from home. An escape from the stresses
of everyday life, Where those who have cancer or are associated with the disease can take comfort outside of the home environment and into a place of where shared struggles generate acceptance and understanding.
The Centre provides a welcoming atmosphere of acceptance and reality, no sympathy but empathy is experienced here, a place that gives to those who feel their lives have been taken away from them. A place of relief and laughter to counter the clinical emotionless environs of hospitals where the patients spend hours, days and years of their lives in.
